Reiki Drum – The Reiki Drum Technique

In recent years there has been a resurgence of many different healing modalities using energy, sound and shamanic practises.  One of the most exciting techniques is Reiki Drumming, or The Reiki Drum Technique as it is known in the UK.  Throughout history drumming has been regarded as sacred and healing.  Combining healing or medicine drumming as it is also known with Reiki energy creates a powerful, albeit gentle therapy which is a welcome addition to the Reiki practitioner’s therapeutic toolbag.

Originating in the US, Reiki Drum was introduced into the UK and Europe in 2007 by Sarah Gregg, a Reiki Master Teacher based in Hertfordshire.  Over the past five years Sarah has made it one of her life missions to spread the technique throughout the region.  She estimates there are around 200 practitioners and 15 teachers of the technique at the beginning of 2012 in England and Scotland alone, and believes Reiki Drum has only just touched the UK and European Reiki community’s consciousness.  She envisages the therapy will grow exponentially over the coming decade due to its profound healing effects.

A buffalo drum is used during the treatments because of its ease of use and harmonious tone.  Treatment sessions include both drumming and hands on Reiki and typically last an hour.  Students who train in the technique are often amazed at how deep this particular therapy goes.  They attend the classes out of curiosity or to add something extra to their Reiki practise, and find they go through very deep level healing themselves throughout the duration of the course, with many positive energy shifts happening afterwards.  In comparison to Shamanic Drumming, the higher frequency energies of Reiki make for a more gentle, ethereal experience, albeit no less powerful on a therapeutic level.

The technique comprises three core healing methods.  Reiki Drum Healing involves the practitioner gently drumming over the client whilst focusing their intent to allow the drum’s sound waves to carry Reiki into the client’s energy field.  The drumming is followed by normal hands on Reiki.  The rhythm of the drum allows clients to switch off easier and drift into an even deeper state of relaxation than they are used to with traditional Reiki.      Clients report feeling as if the healing Reiki energy reaches deep inside their bodies.   Recipients often receive relief from physical discomfort as well as feeling relaxed and uplifted after a healing session.

Reiki Drum Mental Reprogramming is a way of treating negative habits or patterns of behaviour, to focus the mind on something important or for achieving a goal. Drumming facilitates the energetic shift necessary to positively affect the subconscious mind. The client focuses their mind on a particular issue and incorporates a positive affirmation, whilst the practitioner drums gently over them.  The drumming is again followed by Reiki for integration.   The repetitive beat of the drum helps people focus on their particular issue, reaching deep into their subconscious and preventing their minds from straying.  Positive messages are reinforced.  The mental/emotional reprogramming technique offers its best results cumulatively, and it is recommended clients receive a course of treatments.

The Reiki Drum Journey helps to facilitate altered consciousness for the client to access information for change in any area of their life. It can be used for healing personal issues, career concerns, relationship problems, accessing the client’s inner wisdom and tuning into spiritual guidance. It can be exceptionally empowering and healing on all levels.   Clients have many different experiences during the journey.    Some drift into a relaxed state, others see beautiful colours or feel energy pulsating through their body, and many have profound visual and auditory experiences allowing them deep personal insight.  Some fall asleep, feeling refreshed on awakening and receiving spontaneous intuitive messages over the next few days.   Clients often report incredible changes in themselves after the Reiki Drum Journey.

Reiki as a therapy has now firmly found its place in the mainstream consciousness, and is practised in a wide variety of organisations and institutions.  Reiki Drumming has an important part to play in raising consciousness at this present time in humanity’s evolution and development.  By combining Reiki energy with the drum the therapy is also introducing other techniques such as shamanic practises, meditation, sound healing and affirmation work into the mainstream at a time when they are not only needed, but are slowly and surely being embraced.
